Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's worked as a media critic since 1995. She created Feminist Frequency the site with videos and guest posts analyzing the portrayals of females in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that investigates representations of women in narratives from popular culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is the main goals of her work. However, Sarkeesian also discusses issues of specifically targeted harassment online against women as well as other communities that have been excluded. A graduate in the field of political and social thinking at York University Sarkeesian is also well-known as a sought-after presenter and has presented talks at the TEDxWomen XOXO festival as well as The United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since at an early age, she created her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was she was still at University. The ambitious lady planned to create a web series examining gender-based representations in video games. However, she was the subject of an online harassment campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded numerous awards for her numerous prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her work as a critic of media and founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that examines how women are depicted in popular culture of today.
